5 Reasons Why Student Accommodation Security is Vital

5 Reasons Why Student Accommodation Security is Vital

Going to university can be one of the most exciting experiences in a person’s life. Pursuing a dream career, exploring a new city, and making life-long friends are among several reasons why people choose to go to university.

A huge part of university life is finding the ideal student accommodation. Whether you are in private accommodation or campus halls of residence, security should be a top priority.

At Triton Security, we have been considering our top 5 reasons why security in student accommodation is a vital requirement.

  1. Building & Resident Safety

It goes without saying that students should feel safe and secure in their accommodation. Most student accommodation buildings house hundreds of students under one roof. As a result, anti-social behaviour can be a common problem. With a SIA Licensed Security Officer onsite, they can monitor, prevent and defuse unwanted situations. This in turn enhances the safety of the residents and can limit any building damage.

  1. Monitor of Access

Executing and maintaining high levels of security can often require professional support. Through detailed site and risk assessments, security officers can protect student safety and monitor access into and out of the property at multiple entry points. This ensures that only those who are authorised students, or guests, are able to access the building.

  1. Monitoring Trends

Having regular officers on site 24/7 allows relationships to be built with the residents making them feel safe and secure. Our officers are fully trained and can hold friendly conversations with students whilst taking their security seriously. A 24/7 officer presence allows resident trends to be monitored which can identify unusual behaviours that might pose a safety concern.

  1. Increased Expectations / Standards

Over the years, the general expectations and standards of student accommodation have risen. The importance of having somewhere comfortable to live and study has become a priority for most students – especially with the emergence of online learning. As a part of this, having services such as Concierge / Security are now a non-negotiable for many students.

  1. Overall peace of mind

Should an issue arise while at university, parents and students want peace of mind that someone is onsite and able to help resolve it. One common example is a student losing their room keys on a night out. With a friendly officer onsite, they can allow the student access to the building and ensure they get into their room safely.

At Triton Security, we understand the importance of student safety and work with our clients to ensure the correct precautions are in place, so everyone can sleep at ease.

Martyn’s Law

Martyn’s Law

The 22nd May, marked 6 years since the Manchester Arena bombings and the devastating loss of 22 lives. Every year since this event, the community has rallied to show support and solidarity against terrorism in conjunction with the Bee Manchester movement.

Earlier in the month, the UK Government released a draft for the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, otherwise known as ‘Martyn’s Law’.  ‘Martyn’s Law’ serves as a tribute to Martyn Hett, one of the people who lost their lives at the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017.

This law sets out a new legislation that venues will now have to abide, to ensure maximum public safety. Triton Security have been working with our partners to ensure that these measures at met via Security & Vulnerability assessments.
